Hope Pennington’s Three Bookish Thoughts

What book(s) are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!  I never read the Harry Potter books growing up so I’m catching up now and I adore the style!  It’s got such a classic British children’s lit feel to it.  Reminds me of when i was younger reading Narnia and The Hobbit!  I love the fantasy genre to death but it’s super hard to find good ones these days.  I’m also reading a manga graphic novel called Kagerou Daze about an introverted computer nerd and his strange friends.  I love picking up random manga novels and exploring them!  I’m kind of in love with Japanese art.
What fictional universe would like to live in/visit?
I’d live in Doctor Who universe any day as long as I could travel through time and space with that mad man.  You’d never get bored with endless time-streams and worlds to visit, but also I would just love spending time with The Doctor.  That wibbly wobbly scifi jabbering alien with two hearts bigger than he’d like to admit.  He always reminds me to smile when I’m scared, help others when I’m down, that nerds can be hot, bowties are cool and that out of the billions of people in the universe there’s not one who isn’t important.
 Who are your favourite authors?
My favourite author of all is Charles Dickens.  I’m always wowed by how his writing actually changed child labour laws for kids in Great Britain in his day.  His writing not only entertained millions but made the world a better place.  The level of character purity and diversity, realism and wit never ceases to amaze me.  He wrote about a world as it was, twisted, sad and beautiful and small ways that people can and do make it a better place.  That always charms me.  The ease with which his work offers virtue and selflessness into a dark time and place and shows goodness in all it’s glory.  J.K. Rowling is awesome as well.  Her, Lewis, Tolkien and E. Nesbit have to my favourite children’s book authors of all time!  Their colourful yet soulful stories of childhood and magic strike a cord with all ages in their child-like honesty and purity.

This made an interesting read, especially Miss Hope’s thoughts on how Dickens’ writing has not just entertained the world but also made it a better place.

Thank you so much for hosting #FairytaleTheNovel blog tour with Writerly Yours, Chantel. 🙂
