MJV Bookish Thoughts: Book Riot’s Read Harder 2022 Challenge Update

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Happy holidays!

This is my Read Harder 2022 Challenge Update post. I already told you that I failed to complete the 24 reading tasks. I only read five books for this challenge and I’m in the middle of a sixth book.

Read Harder 2022 Challenge

The best book I read from the Challenge was The Secret Lives Of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw.

I rated this book five stars and it is my only five star book for 2022. This was from prompt number 24 to pick a challenge from a previous year to repeat. I chose to read a short story collection which was from the 2015 Read Harder Challenge.

Then I completed four other books or literary magazines throughout 2022 for the Challenge.

Read a book from Women’s Prize shortlist/long list/winner list – Red At The Bone by Jacqueline Woodson.

Read a book in any genre by a POC that’s about joy and not trauma – Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert

Read an entire poetry collection – Home Body by Rupi Kaur

Read a book whose movie or TV adaptation you’ve seen (but haven’t read the book) – The Duke and I (Bridgerton book one) by Julia Quinn.

Read a new-to-you literary magazine (print or digital) – Words Without Borders.

And that’s it for me and the Read Harder 2022 Challenge. I am currently listening to Jane Austen Biography By Elizabeth Jenkins on Scribd. That would fulfill the task of reading a biography of an author you admire.

I’ve already downloaded the 2023 Read Harder Challenge and I will attempt to prioritise this in the new year.

Happy holidays and thanks for reading. I won’t post on Christmas Day. But see you guys again on New Year’s Day 2023 where I’ll share my planners and journals for the year.
