MJV Bookish Thoughts: February 2023 TBR List
Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. I’m sorry I missed last week Sunday. It was a busy work week and then I was also busy on Saturday. Today it is all about my February 2023 TBR list. These are the books I plan on reading next month.
February 2023 TBR List
I’ve selected a mix of books on my Read Harder Challenge list plus the February pick for the Jamaica Kincaid read along plus books from my NetGalley shelf. I had a good reading month so far for January (I’ll post my reading wrap-up next week) and I hope to continue in February.
The Salt Eaters by Toni Cade Bambara
I’ll be listening to the audiobook for the Read Harder Challenge prompt to read a book that’s a favourite of my favourite author. So according to a Book Riot article Bambara was a favourite of Toni Morrison. I found the audiobook on Scribd and will be listening in February.
I know very little about this book except that there are some magical elements or at least African American spirit world references.
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
One of my favourites and Toni Morrison’s first novel. It’s the story of Pecola Brredlove and wish to be seen as beautiful and loved and wanting blue eyes. It is heartbreaking. I’m not sure how many times I’ve read it.
This novel is for Read Harder Challenge to read a banned book by BIPOC author.
Anatomy of a Meet Cute by Addie Woolridge
From my NetGalley shelf and I’ll be reading this as a Read Harder Challenge prompt to read a book you know nothing about based solely on the cover. This works because at the time I selected this title there were no details on Goodreads or NetGalley about the book’s premise.
It has since been updated on NetGalley but I haven’t read the synopsis.
Missing Dead Girls by Sara Walters
And another book from my NetGalley shelf. This one is a YA mystery thriller. I hope it’s good. It is slated to be released on 28 February 2023.
When The Vibe Is Right by Sara Dass
This one is from Edelweiss and it is a YA romance from a Trinidadian author. It is set during Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.
I’m a little conflicted with this one as it is a Harper Collins title and with the ongoing strike most reviewers aren’t promoting Harper Collins titles. The thing is one, I didn’t know it was a Harper Collins book when I requested it. And two, I want to support a Caribbean writer.
Annie John by Jamaica Kincaid
This is a Caribbean literature classic. I’ll be reading with the Read Jamaica Kincaid read along folks. I have access to the audiobook via Scribd but I may order the ebook.
