Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. Today I’m sharing my June 2023 reading wrap-up. In June I read three books. Yes, a very slow reading month but I hope things will pickup for the rest of summer. I mean have you seen my summer 2023 reading list?

The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan

This second chance romance was from my NetGalley shelf and I missed the deadline for reviewing it by a few days because it was re-released in May and it was my first book that I finished in June.

I rated this book three-stars. It ends on a cliffhanger so you will want to pickup book two The Rebel King which is on my summer 2023 reading list.

The Kingmaker was my first Kennedy Ryan book and I want to read other book or series by the author. It was a steamy contemporary romance.

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review on NetGalley.

Mystery On The Menu by Nicole Kimberling

This was an edgier cozy mystery collection. There were three stories or mysteries in the book and I rated this four-stars. It has a m-m romance at it’s heart and so I want to see Drew and Mac thrive. I’d read more in this universe but I have no idea if the author intends to write more with these characters but the wrap-up was satisfying.

I received a free ebook copy from BookSirens in exchange for my review.

Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid

My favourite book for June was Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. Lucy is such a complex and messy character and I’m in awe of Kincaid’s abilities to craft such distinct yet similar characters. If you enjoyed Annie John then read Lucy as well.

I rated this 4.5 stars.

The next book in Kiki’s Jamaica Kincaid read along is The Autobiography of My Mother and I haven’t bought my copy yet but I plan to include that in my reading for the summer so the tbr just got longer.

I am currently listening to Hungry Ghosts on Scribd and I’m enjoying it. I’m drafting this post on Wednesday 28 June so I maybe finished with it by Sunday.

I’ve also tried a chapter or two of The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan and Alliance With His Heiress by Lydia San Andres.

See you guys next week and happy reading! Next week we’ll shift gears and do a life in Jamaica posts instead of a Bookish Thoughts book discussion.

Take care!
