MJV Bookish Thoughts: October 2022 TBR List

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Hello October.

New month means new reading list. This is my October 2022 To Be Read List. It is a short list too.

October 2022 TBR List

For October 2022, I selected three books to be added to my TBR. One book is a carry over from September and the other two are book two in series that I started.

I don’t usually do TBR. I have been mood reading all year but since I decided to revive My Jamaican Vignettes, I decided that it was time to start creating reading lists as a general guide to help me focus for the month.

Here are the books on my October 2022 TBR List:

Body and Soul Food (Books & Biscuits Mystery #1) by Abby Collette

Goodreads Summary: In this page-turning new mystery series, fraternal twins Keaton and Koby will pull double duty when they take down a killer while preparing to open their new bookstore and soul-food café, Books & Biscuits.

It is a cosy mystery. I started reading it in September but got to around 24% so I will finish reading it in October.

The Satapur Moonstone (Perveen Mistry series book 2) by Sujata Massey

Goodreads summary: The highly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed novel The Widows of Malabar Hill.

India, 1922: It is rainy season in the lush, remote Sahyadri mountains, where the princely state of Satapur is tucked away. A curse seems to have fallen upon Satapur’s royal family, whose maharaja died of a sudden illness shortly before his teenage son was struck down in a tragic hunting accident. The state is now ruled by an agent of the British Raj on behalf of Satapur’s two maharanis, the dowager queen and her daughter-in-law.

The royal ladies are in a dispute over the education of the young crown prince, and a lawyer’s counsel is required. However, the maharanis live in purdah and do not speak to men. Just one person can help them: Perveen Mistry, Bombay’s only female lawyer. Perveen is determined to bring peace to the royal house and make a sound recommendation for the young prince’s future, but she arrives to find that the Satapur palace is full of cold-blooded power plays and ancient vendettas. Too late, she realizes she has walked into a trap. But whose? And how can she protect the royal children from the palace’s deadly curse?

I read and loved book one, The Widows of Malabar Hill in 2019 and I have no idea why it has taken me this long to dive back into the series. I will be listening to the audiobook on Scribd. This one is a historical mystery book.

Anchored Hearts by Priscilla Oliveras (Keys to Love book 2)

This is a second change romance. I read book one in the series earlier this year and while I didn’t love it, I saw book two on Amazon for USD 0.99 and decided I could give it a try. I hope it is better than book one in the series.

Goodreads 2022 Reading Challenge Update

I have read 21 books so far this year.

This means I am three books away from completing my 2022 reading challenge. And that feels great. As I said in my comeback post, I read slower and my attention span seems shorter but I am happy with the progress I’ve made in 2022.

Book Riot Read Harder 2022 Challenge Update

Now my Book Riot Read Harder 2022 challenge hasn’t been going so great. From the 24 reading prompts, I read five books. So I doubt I will complete the challenge but let’s see how much progress I can make. I will give an update in November.

Next week, I will post my September 2022 reading wrap-up with mini reviews of the books I completed last month.

That’s it for my October 2022 TBR List. Have you read any of the books on my list? What are you thoughts (no spoilers please)?
