Struggling With My Physical TBR

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I got a Kindle for Christmas 2018 and I have been reading mostly digital copies of books since then. In December 2023, I decided that 2024 would be the year I returned to reading physical books. My plan was simple, read a physical book per month. But I am failing.

In Q1 2024, I only managed to get around a quarter of the way through a physical book I started in January and that is just sad. Why can’t I read my physical books?

E-books vs Audiobooks

I’ve been reading primarily e-books for the last five years with some audiobooks thrown in here and there. This year I increased my reading goal target to 50 books based on how many books I read in 2023. In the pre-COVID years, I used to enjoy listening to audiobooks when I went into the office. But since working from home full-time, I haven’t gotten into the audiobook rhythm. I will start a book then stop listening my lunch and then forget about it until the weekend.

The Physical TBR stacks

My physical TBR isn’t massive. I have around six or eight books that I want to get to in 2024.

Reading Patsy by Nicole Dennis Benn

I started reading Patsy in January after wanting to read it for years but it has been a bit triggering for me. But I want to know what happens to Tru and Pasty so I will continue reading. Here’s my strategy starting tomorrow, I will read a chapter or two of Patsy during my lunch break throughout the work week until I arrive at that magical and so far elusive ending in a physical book.

The Plan To Tackle My Physical TBR

For the rest of 2024, I hope that I can read two physical books per quarter that I will end up reading the six books I have featured in this post. Wish me luck.

How do you prefer reading? Physical books or e-books or audiobooks? Maybe you have a good mix of all three options, let me know.
