The Tools I Rely On While On My Fitness Journey: Fitbit and MyNetDiary

Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. So we enjoyed the holidays, now it is time to return to our fitness goals.
At the end of October 2024, I looked at my progress and where I wanted to get to and realigned my goals so my present weight loss goal deadline is now 31 March 2025. One quarter. After this my aim is simply to maintain my goal weight throughout 2025.
But what are the tools that I am using? The Fitbit app on my Google Pixel Watch and the MyNetDiary app.
My Fitness Journey Tools and Apps
I don’t recall when exactly I downloaded the MyNetDiary app but I feel as if I have been using for over a year. I am on the calorie deficit plan. I track my water intake, weight loss (and gains) as well as meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
The app tracks your macros and sends you a detailed breakdown of your weekly food report each Sunday. But here’s the thing you have to be honest. You have to track what you actually eat. For example if you have some fried chicken and rice and peas and vegetables for Sunday dinner, you need to also add any sauces and condiments you added and also any dressing you added to the salad. Be honest and be thorough.
My only complaint is that the app doesn’t have that many traditional Jamaican meals already included in its library so if you eat a primarily Jamaican/Caribbean diet you will need to upload your macros and estimated calories for some meals.
However, several local brands of pre-packaged foods are included like Grace, Serge Island, Best Dressed Chicken, etc.
I’ve been using the Fitbit app on my smartwatch to track my steps and record my exercise since summer 2024.
Presently my daily steps goal is 7000 steps and I try to exercise at least three times each day, primarily strength training activities using my dumbbells.
That’s what I am currently working on. Expect an update in April.

Will have to look into to the MyNetDiary app. Seems like it can really help. I’ve been having to calculate the macros for all my meals manually. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I wish you continued success on your fitness journey, no doubt you will achieve the goals as they are realistic and manageable.
