Top Five Books Of 2024 So Far (August 2024)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. It is another bookish post today (and so is next week). These are my top five books of 2024 for the first half of the year.

Top Five Books of 2024 (Up to August 2024)

My top five books span the genres of contemporary romance, historical romance, historical fiction and literary fiction.

  1. Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan
  2. Rebel by Beverly Jenkins
  3. Patsy by Nicole Dennis-Benn
  4. The Vanishing Girls by Callie Browning
  5. Curvy Girl Summer by Danielle Allen

Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan is book one in the Skyland series and it was emotionally charged contemporary romance that leans heavily into women’s fiction. It was a second chance romance that deals with grief, death of a child, depression, and therapy. I also loved book two, This Could Be Us and I can’t wait for book three to be released in spring 2025.

Beverly Jenkins is a leader in African American historical romance and I loved Rebel so much I needed to read all the books in LeVeq family series and I slowly making my way through that series.

It took me months to read Patsy because it was personally triggering but man it was worth reading. I can’t wait to see what Dennis-Benn writes next.

The Vanishing Girls by Callie Browning is set in the 1980s in Barbados and is the only mystery on this list. I highly recommend it. And I have two other books by Browning on my Kindle that I hope to read later this year.

Last on the list is my favourite audiobook that I’ve experienced this year. Curvy Girl Summer by Danielle Allen was a fun, contemporary romance. Be mindful of the fatphobia from the FMC’s family and dates.
