Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. Today we’re doing another wellness apps post. This is a deeper dive and I’ll sharing apps I use and some I hope to integrate into my routines in the next few months.

Wellness Apps To Help You Feel More In Control

I love my phone. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted to it. But I have my phone with me most days. I do have it on do-not-disturb mode in the nights while I sleep. But during my active hours I will have my phone.

Here are some apps to incorporate into your routine that help you feel more in control.

Meditation

You guys already know that I use and love the Calm app. I no longer meditate every day but I do incorporate meditation a few nights per week during my nighttime routine. An alternative to Calm is Headspace.

Food Diary

I use Shape by the Fabulous to record my weight and meals as well do some guided self-awareness routines. My only issue with the app is that it doesn’t have a calorie counter or a water intake tracker. If you have a Samsung phone I highly recommend the Samsung Health app for tracking your calories and water intake and exercise.

Another app I’ve read good things about is MyFitnessPal but I’ve never used it so I can recommend it.

Periods

Ladies there are several period trackers in the app store but I use Flo. Now I know there are concerns regarding data privacy when using period trackers so please consider the risks and what your lifestyle is like before you start using one.

Other period trackers are My Tracker and 28.

Fitness

I still haven’t bought a fitness tracker. So I use the Fit app that’s built-in on my Pixel 7. I know that Fitbit is popular and lots of people use those fitness tracker and the accompanying app. If you’re an Apple user you might already own and use an Apple watch that also tracks fitness.

Alternatives include the Amazfit tracker and that app. That’s the tracker I have saved on my Amazon list.

Meal Planning

There are several meal planning apps out there. I’ve used the free version of MealLime but for some reason I couldn’t upgrade to a premium account using Google Play so I deleted it.

Some other options for recipes are BBC Good Food, Feel Better By Deliciously Ella and Thrive.

A Note On Paying for Premium Apps

Always try the apps before you commit to the premium versions. Use a free trial even if it is only for a week before you commit and it’s perfectly fine to cancel if it no longer serves you.

Some Takeaways

Before you download any new wellness apps ask yourself some key questions.

What do you want to achieve with the app? Are you looking to improve your sleep, lose weight, or manage stress?
Consider your present lifestyle: How much time do you have to commit to using the app? Do you prefer guided meditations or do you prefer to meditate on your own?

What’s your budget: Some wellness apps are free, while others require a subscription.

Once you have considered these factors, you can start to narrow down your choices and find the best app for you.
